A cuisine that is original, pleasant and hearty. Cocktails are also very good. A caring team and service. Finally an original decor (on the theme of the adventurer Corto Maltese 20th century literary legend created in 1967 by the great Venetian illustrator Hugo Pratt) is very original and refreshing.
I recommend booking to be sure to have a place.

The cuisine is delicious, more refined than what is generally offered in Croatian restaurants, as well as the attentive service. I recommend the truffle macaroni!

Villa Spiza is a local’s people beloved simple restaurant, located just a few steps away from the palace. The interior is low-key but don't get stopped by that as they serve really great traditional Dalmatian food, and change their menu daily depending on what’s available at the market (so it's always fresh and full of local ingredients) and always features regional specialties, amazing fish and meat dishes, risottos, and all kinds of pasta, at great prices! The place is split in 2 spaces one across the other, as they were so successful that they opened another space in front. It's a local family owned place and you feel it, they love what they do, The authenticity and hospitality of this family place is not to miss!

They have 30days dry aged locally sourced beef, and prepare it deliciously (argentinian style), not many places in split that know how to prepare meat that is not just grilled, however they also offer gluten free, vegeterian and vegan meals...! Also inside you'll find a lovely wine shop with a great selection of wines!

Simple but delicious and affordable restaurant making traditional Croatian dishes in large portions, “grandma’s dishes,” as owner says. Located around the corner from the fish market so there are always fresh seafood dishes.
The authenticity and hospitality of this family place is great. However the place is small so it can be difficult to find a spot and there can be wait!
I recommend any fried fish, fresh shrimps that come directly from the fish market every day. Also Squid with fava beans, Beef stew with gnocchi that are very good.

Don’t be put off by the simple exterior, go in and order a burek, here they are freshly made all the time!

Food markets are a must see and must eat! Not only will you enjoy fresh local products for cheap, but also help local community and enjoy a traditional way of living and eating!
"Pazar" is Split's biggest and main open-air green farmer’s market (zelena tržnica), open every morning until 1pm, seven days a week (saturday being the busiest day). There you can get fresh greens, fruits and veggies and other domestic produce (oil, cheeses, flowers...) directly from the producer. Located right next to the east wall of the Diocletian Palace. People from surrounding villages bring large varieties of vegetables and fruits for sale, so the atmosphere is real, authentic and full of charm!

For sure the best bakery in the old center of Split, very different from the usual ones, as this is a small family bakery, where all is homemade using simple ingredients without additives. So you can find big variety of healthy breads and pastries: regular, wholegrain, wheat-free, gluten-free...
Be aware: they are working only in the morning till 2pm and everything sells out pretty fast so be sure to go there in the morning!

Beach clubs & best Coffee spots by the beach
Cafés and terraces are more than very numerous :) you'll find them everywhere by the beaches and in the cities, it's just a beloved way of life in Dalmatia :) so you'll find easily great places for a quick coffee just by walking around. Therefore here I'll focus on giving you a few special spots (for the view etc) and beach clubs where you can hang out the whole day (rent subbed cabanes etc)!
Best spot by the Bacvice sand beach for cheap coffee and drinks, one of the rare spot in Split that remains affordable in the summer months. Plus it's the only cafe bar directly on the Bacvice sand beach part!
