This place does epic brunch. Bill Granger is the king of laid-back, elevated Australian eating. A must-go! I tend to hang out here during the week as the weekend brunch scene can get packed (which is still fun if a little crazy!)
This is where I go if I'm working away from my office for the day - it's really laptop friendly for lunch, as you can sit at a big communal table to do your work or reading, and it boasts beautiful ambience.

I come here after hours sometimes for a salad and a glass of wine to study - the view onto Paddington terraces is really cute, and it's a perfect place to go al fresco.
Cool, local Italian dining - I prefer this to the more 'sceney' Machiavelli which is right behind, although they're both good. They're also open for lunch most days, and is nice when you want to eat something authentic with a great wine list to boot, staying so local it's really on the doorstep.
Sometimes I come here for a wine in the evening to study at the bar (I'm doing a PhD), they have an amazing wine list by the glass and will give you free foccacia!

This is hands down, the best secret local spot to go for a wine in Sydney. The best news is that if you bring your passport or overseas drivers licence, you can get in! Normally you have to pay a members fee but if you have a foreign address you can just breeze on in. Because it's like an RSL club, the drinks are super cheap and the view is spectacular. It's also study-friendly if you're seeking a water view during the afternoon or evening. Their fish and chips are fantastic (and you can switch for salad).
