Everyone raves about the food here. I think it's just ok and has become kind of a Puerto myth. That being said, their bakery does great rolls, from salty to fruity. Also burger buns and bread

Great fresh fish, meat and vegetables. The end stall on the right hand side of the main staircase is my go to. She also sells coal for the BBQ You can find cheese in the front left and fresh hand made tortillas (avoid the machine ones - they don't use fresh corn) on the front right.

Beaches and nature spots

For some reason Airbnb only lists places on their system. There is also - The Iguana Sanctuary on the coastal road. Chacahua Lagoons Chacahua is rich in biodiversity; a wide variety of birds and reptiles can be seen here. This magical lagoon is another place where visitors are able to enjoy the phenomenon of bioluminescence. A beautiful beach, also called Chacahua, lies across the lagoon. You can rent boats to travel through the lagoon
You can kayak on this lagoon and during the rainy season they have phosphoresnce tours, which are pretty cool.

Puerto Escondido nestles among picturesque beaches, and is framed by giant rock formations. A warm and friendly atmosphere pervades the area, and the sunset is one of the best shows to be seen. If you are looking for nightlife, there are many great options, especially along the main street known as El Adoquín and on Zicatela. Zicatela stands out among the seven beaches to be found in Puerto Escondido and surfers come from around the world to conquer the famous Mexican Pipeline -experts say that Puerto Escondido’s waves rank 3rd in the world for surfers. It also has great restaurants, shops and bars. The main beach is great place to hire boats for fishing trips or to visit places of interest. Bacocho beach has a wide variety of hotels and is an oasis of peace and quiet. Other beaches are Marinero, Puerto Angelito, Manzanillo and Carrizalillo. These last two are perfect spots for lying back and enjoying the sun or taking part in any number of water-sports. La Punta is a surfer’s favourite and has lovely funky cafés, an organic store and palapa beach bars and local restaurants. Puerto Escondido offers everything from amazing waves to peaceful havens, as well as beautiful coral reefs; snorkeling and diving reveal a wide variety of multi-colored fish, mother of pearl and manta rays in an underwater paradise. It is also an excellent place for open-sea fishing for species such as sailfish, marlin, tuna and mahi-mahi. Connectivity Puerto Escondido’s International Airport receives thousands of tourists a year. At only 65 minutes from Mexico City and 30 from Oaxaca City, it is an excellent and speedy option. Traveling overland Puerto Escondido is only 261 Kms from Oaxaca and the drive takes visitors through stunning scenery and friendly villages.

Shopping

I love visiting local shops and markets. I like to eat fresh, local and organic whenever possible. Also do quite a lot of pottering in shops around Puerto for the kids etc
There are lots of great stalls here. When the market does not have construction work going this is the layout. 1. local sellers selling small amounts of produce can be found on entering the market and going towards the left on the side of the market at the weekends. 2. Small producers sell their wares on the right hand side as you go in the main entrance, past the flowers and shoes. 3. We buy fish here and go to any of the stalls. To make fish steaks ask for 'lomo'. 4. If you are looking to buy varied fruit and vegetables and coal for the BBQ, the vendor at the last stall on the right has a good variety and also sells quesillo (local Oaxacan cheese) and tlayudas ( large tortillas that crisp up when grilled) 5. Local cheeses bottom left hand side; you can usually ask to taste with a smile, 'me da la prueba por favor?' 6. Fresh tortillas can be bought from the ladies making them on the left hand side of the market on the street side. Weirdly, they are in a cage.

There are two locations one here and one on Rinconada. I will never understand why people like to eat here, I think the food is bland and not cheap (the only reason I would assume people would queue to get in) BUT their bakery sells, sweet mango rolls, chocolate croissant, banana bread and savory rolls; spinach, tuna or ham and cheese. Good for snacks and picnics. Also some savory bread and burger buns - but make sure it doesn't contain sugar ( es pan salado?)
