The best time to hike is mid morning and early evenings. The views are breathtaking. Plus, it's literally around the corner. ;)
Great place to sightsee. Hiking available at South Mountain just minutes away
This is a HUGE mountain preserve right in the middle of the city. Lots of options here, including driving to the very top and starting the hike there. Amazing views of downtown Phoenix to the North.
There are some good trails to check out the native petroglyphs. I recommend sunrise or sunset for the best veiwing experience. Check out the ALL Trails App for details and directions. Follow up your hike with a visit to "The Farm" for breakfast or lunch.

“Every list needs a token hip spot, and the Coronado neighborhood provides that place with the cozy, house-turned-restaurant . Advertised as a spring roll bar, the menu is dominated by its many rolls, but fear not, the small pho section certainly makes up for its size through flavor.”

“The hike up the hill can be a workout, but the reward is a great view. The route is a walk on paved surface until about halfway up, and then more of a hike on unpaved path to the top. ”
