This is not a typical small town museum. This is a wonderful - and very large - collection of the last 120+ years of working with and in the sea on the NW Oregon coast. Inside the museum are whole fishing boats (not mock ups), Coast Guard Life Boats both past and present, all in realistic…
The standout thing to do in Astoria however is undoubtedly visiting the Columbia River Maritime Museum which lies along the waterfront. Set in a wonderful wave-shaped building, it offers up an interesting look into the city’s seafaring heritage and has innumerable artifacts and interactive exhibits…
Great museum with full vessels displayed inside. Including military, Coast Guard, commercial and fishing displays. Also a 3-D movie theatre.
This is the best place to learn about the dangers and lore surrounding this stretch of the river. Learn what challenges face those who have tried crossing the entrance to the river. A map of shipwrecks is a reminder of the dangers.
Great gift shop connected to a wonderful museum. Good place to get a sweatshirt, magnet, or other fun souvenirs from the coast.
Fun for the whole Family, Cinemax movies of the ocean, great place to learn History of the Columbia River.
Learn all about the "Graveyard of the Pacific" and Astoria's past and current communities of fishermen/women, shipping barges, and the Coast Guard. Totally worth the admission fee; plan for 2-3 hours at least.
A great place to visit and learn about the Columbia River region and boating history. It is one of the finest maritime museums of national distinction.

“There’s a small fee to get up there. The view is great from the parking lot. You can climb to the top for better views. You can also start the hike just down the street on the trail head on Irving street.”
