A massive independent bookstore where you can find new, used, and rare books. The West Burnside location is the flagship, but if you're looking for something more low-key, there's an East Side outpost on Hawthorne as well.
No trip to Portland is complete without a pilgrimage to Powells City of Books. Powells claims to be the largest independent new and used bookstore in the world, and I can believe it. I used to dream about living here. Powells has new, used, rare, underground, and out-of-print books. They have a…
largest independent new and used bookstore in the United States and is a must-visit for book lovers. Grab a map of the store at the entrance and get lost in the racks
Worlds largest used and new bookstore! A fun afternoon spent rummaging through the stacks. Enjoy a coffee and read in the gold room!
World famous bookstore ... its HUGE! So many areas to explore, you can linger for an entire day looking at books and sipping coffee :)
A must-see bookstore with rooms and rooms of excellent books and gifts, some great deals on used books too. Plan to spend an entire afternoon here.
Powell’s is one of the coolest stores in all of Portland. Plan for an hour longer than you think you’ll need, as you're sure to get lost in a book while you're there.
Famous for it being the largest independent bookstore. Even if you don't like books, you'll find this place amazing. There is a coffee shop on-prem. I love the photography section... one of the best collection of photobooks; but that's just me. You'll find something here for every interest.
Skip the libraries, and spent the day enjoying the shelves in Powell's like a Portlander. This location has very rare books. The location of Hawthorne has a cozy cafe and easier parking.

“NOT OPEN CURRENTLY, however you can walk up to an old submarine. When it reopens, it’s a lovely science museum for adults and kids alike. If you’re lucky enough to be visiting for one of their OMSI After Dark events, those are highly recommended”
