Originally built in 1910, today the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge is known as the home of a colony of 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats that spectacularly fly out into the night sky every evening from spring through fall.

Research "Congress Avenue Bats" it's a sight to see depending on the weather and time of year you visit. *Pick up a kayak rental from Congress Avenue Kayaks at the Waller Creek Boathouse to paddle upriver to see the skyline from the water.

One of Austin's unique things is to enjoy evening flights of Mexican free-tailed bats that have made Congress Avenue bridge their home 🏡

Sort of the obligatory thing to do during the summer to watch the bats. If you can rent a kayak from the Rowing Dock, it would offer a different way to view the bats than standing on shore on on the bridge.
