Until 1917, Carnikava could be proud of the most luxurious manor in Vidzeme. The son of Baron Magnus Gustav von Mengden, Ernst Reinhold von Mengden (1726-1798) bought the title of count for his wealth in Germany in 1774, and around this time the Carnikava manor house was built - the proudest castle in Vidzeme. Ernest Reinhold was the eleventh child in the family and was close to the Russian court, as he served until the post of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna's chief chamberlain. Unfortunately, the count did not manage to get a successor to the family and the manor was inherited by his brother's children, who pledged it and sold it. During the Revolution and the First World War in 1905-1907, the buildings of the Carnikava manor were destroyed and no longer restored. The last owner of the manor was the industrialist Heinrich Gägerer.
