(3 hr/2.6 km return) From the car park off Kakepuku Mountain Rd, a well-formed track leads to a historic pā site and viewing tower. A broad track leads up to a lower viewing platform then follows up through regenerating forest to the edge of the historic reserve. No mountain bikes beyond this…
Another steep climb, approximately 60 minutes to the top. This also has a trig at the top and great signs to point out the major areas you are looking at.
Walk up the beautiful mountain and get views of not only Otorohanga but other little towns around too! On clear days you can even see the ocean!!!

“Piripiri Cave offers the chance to soak in the majesty of a cave in one of the few free caves open to the general public in the area. A short walk takes you up through native bush and past some limestone outcrops, and then descends a short stair case to the cave entrance. A platform at the bottom allows you to stand and marvel at the size of the cave and the fragile ecosystems within.”
