Although the AT extends for over two-thousand miles and is famous for through hikes, you can enjoy some great day hikes on the AT near Franklin!

There are places close by to access the AT. . .Sampson Mountain Wilderness Trailhead at Horse Creek Recreation Area (11.2 miles from cabin) in Chuckey, TN and in Erwin, TN (22.1 miles on winding roads).

Appalachian Trail: Nolichucky River to Iron Mountain Gap is a 29.3 mile lightly trafficked point-to-point trail located near Unicoi, Tennessee that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, bird watching, and backpacking and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
