If you are in Budapest for a little longer, Szentendre is a lovely suburban colourful place to visit and it’s easy to get to. Take H5 ‘HÉV’ from Margit bridge Buda side or Batthyány tér. In the old town of Szentendre you can choose from very nice restaurants and cafés. Szamos confectionery is worth a try, you will get a ‘real’ hot chocolate and you can also visit Szamos marzipan museum. There are many nice local marketers and don’t forget to visit the Christmas shop which is open all year.

The most obvious one-day excursion is to take suburb train, or even better to rent a bike and get there. You will find churches, museums, restaurants with the small town vibe.
