Castleton is at the far end of the Hope Valley. It is a very picturesque village that ends at the foot of 'Winnats Pass'. There are plenty of pubs and eateries in Castleton. There are also many of the local caverns, the main one being Speedwell, where you can go underground, on a boat, and see the fascinating rock formations. There are some stunning walks to start or finish in Castleton. It is certainly worth making your way to the top of Winnats, walking to the edge and seeing the view down the whole valley. The best view is at sunrise, however, this can be a very early start.

Further afield, in the Dark Peak, is the pretty village of Castleton with its castle, fascinating Blue John mines and wilder walking country. The Blue John mineral is only found in this area and the mines include Speedwell which is visited by boat.
