The image of Buddha sitting cross-legged is engraved in the north face of Khao Chi Chan. The lonely limestone hill was once used to supply the local construction industry with materials. In 1996, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the accession to the throne of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadejd, the image 109 meters high and 70 meters wide was dug into the rock and then marked in gold. The image was designed using computer software, then pulled to the side of Khao Chi Chan using a laser. This was done entirely at night, so that the laser light could be seen more clearly. Finally, with the finished drawing, the gold was used to fill the sculpture.

Buddha Mountain (Khao Chi Chan Buddha) The 130-meter-high Buddha Mountain is one of the most noticeable landmarks in the region, visible to anyone from miles away. The image was originally created in 1996 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s reign on the throne of Thailand. The image was carved using laser technology and then inlaid with gold leaf. The mountain also has some beautifully landscaped gardens and lotus pools, giving an air of tranquility to the place.
