walking distance, decent food and drinks at rsl prices, includes TAB and casual gym/pool as well

One of Coogee's RSL's, atmosphere is a bit dated but they have some outdoors seating. I never go for the food but they have a small gym, they also have a pool and sauna, and casual visits are allowed.

A fair dinkum Aussie club that also has pretty good music from time to time. Beware - it isn't exactly a cool small bar but it has its own charms... & cheap beer!
